I recently purchased a new 2018 EcoBoost. I’ve been having issues with it when I accelerate and come to a stop. It tends to be lagging and hesitation at acceleration. And when I come to a stop the car lunges forward as it downshifts from gear 3 to 2 to 1. Almost shoots forward into the car in front of me. Not safe. And something I’ve never felt coming to a stop in a car. I brought it to Ford and they ran tests. They said everything is normal.

Does anyone else have anything similar with their 2018-2019 EcoBoost?

I own a 2018 as well, bought new back in January. I have exact same issues as you.

I brought it back to the dealer and they too said nothing wrong....

It is the worst transmission I have ever driven in any car, not just in a stang.

I had traded in my 05 GT with 175,000km on it and the auto trans was way more smoother than the 10 speed.

I plan on going back to the dealer next week as it clunks 3 times when I shift from neutral to drive. That started last week....

I actually have to put the trans in neutral when I stop at lights etc. Its almost like the abs is engaging and trying to slow the car down but its also downshifting as well, just a very jerky trans. Its not even safe to drive in "S" mode with mine. The jerking is ridiculous, yet Ford says is normal.

Hopefully we get a fix soon. It seems like we have the same issues as the trucks had with the 10 speeds in them, yet no update for mustang ones.....

Yes, my is clunky too as I shift from park to drive or reverse. Feels like something is gonna fall out under the car lol. I plan on taking it back for 2nd time. I talked to a Lemon law lawyer and they said should take it 3 times to dealership. Before you go forward and make lemon claim. Lawyer said they dealt with a lot of the new Ford auto transmissions. But just started hearing about the new mustang ecoboost transmissions recently.

I would be interested in what mode you are driving in or does this occur in all or any mode?

It sounds like a programming issue in the automatic transmission's software. My hunch is that the dealers don't have any updated information, so all they can do is tell a customer that the condition is normal. This is the kind of snafu that is the basis for a Lemon Law case. Most states' laws require four repair attempts (one with manufacturer involvement) and/or thirty days out of service to meet the "resumption" that the car is defective. Hopefully, Ford is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. It would be a lot easier for everyone who owns one of the affected cars to get the trans. working right, than to go through the hassle of a buy-back!

We are also experiencing problems with our 2019 eco automatic transmission. It feels like its hesitating when accelerating. At first it felt like it was missing and on the freeway it was vibrating and shuttering. The check light came on briefly then it turned off and car ran fine. We had only had it a couple weeks. Took it back to the dealer. They said the computer showed no problem. It was fine after that for a couple months. We trailered it begins our motorhome from Florida to Oregon. Now it is seeming to have a problem in the higher gears. Likes it slipping,or hesitating Especially if you step on it. Lower gears seem fine although it has turned itself back on once No check engine light. Wondering what’s going on!

I have a 2018 Ecoboost which had the same problem. I took it to the dealer, they did some electronic work (software update, I believe). It fixed the problem. The transmission is totally smooth while downshifting, changing from P,R,N,D, and without any clunks. The lurching and clunky downshifts are NOT normal. Mine was fixed.

Hey Nikujaga,

If you wouldn't mind uploading a copy of your invoice from your dealer or reply with a message of what exactly was done
on the work order I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
The work done: performed ppt, checked and monitored pids, clear transmission adaptive table. After this work the transmission has been as smooth as silk and seamless shifts. Hope this helps.

This happened to mine when I had it. Took it to the dealer. It was low on some fluid, I want to say oil or transmission fluid. They added more, reset the ECU and it was smooth after. Might be worth having the dealer look at it.

Wow! You make a great point. The first step in diagnosing transmission problems is to check the fluid level and condition. It's very likely that the fluid level was not properly filled at the factory??? I've seen that happen. Then, clearing the errant shifting codes would correct the problem. It's a real bummer that the manufacturers have chosen to eliminate dipsticks from transmissions. It makes no logical sense; but they've done it anyways. Thanks for the update.

Funny story, spent all day at dealership finally getting my 2019. Got there at 1pm and drove away at 8:29 pm. After grabbing some food and heading home, my new ecoboost mustang started shifting weird and then the check engine light came on. Someone please reassure me I didn't screw myself with this beautiful car....

I have a 2018 EB PP w/10 speed auto trans and have not had any of the issues posted here. 7 K + miles on it. Before or after Cobb stage 1 tune installed. I am totally surprised at these posts on the EB's 10 auto transmission. I have been very impressed with the way the auto trans responds, with or without paddle shift use. "Luck of the Draw" I guess.

My 19 EB/PP with 10 speed has an issue where sometimes when I put it in reverse and back up, then shift back to drive, the camera sticks on for a couple mins, then goes back to the normal screen but is still locked up and can do anything with the touch screen. Sometimes it fixes itself after a couple of mins, others it stays locked up even after I shut the car off, the screen stays on for like ten mins... Been meaning to take it in, just been busy with work.

That sound more like an electronics issue than the transmission. Sometimes mine won’t pick up apple CarPlay.

Again...first thing to do is check fluid level and condition. Then codes. Hopefully, it's something simple like that???
