I have a 2020 ecoboost coupe. I have read numerous threads on the internet about how to disable the ANC. Whether that will make a difference in the droning noise I get in 10th. gear, I don't know. Opinions seem to be divided. Anyway, they all talk about pulling down the headliner at the rear and then you will see a microphone a few inches in and in the middle of the headliner. I have done this procedure and there is no microphone visible. Is there any other place where this mic might be? I know the convertibles have the mic in a different position but I haven't seen any other locations for the coupe. They also said I can pull the fuse for the amplifier, which I did. Of course I now would not have a radio. I pulled the fuse anyway and I did notice a substantial difference in the drone noise in 10th but now there is a different drone at other speeds, which is very annoying. So, I put back the fuse (a very annoying job) and I am back to square one. I'm thinking that if I disable the mic alone, that could make a difference in just the 10th. gear drone.

FYI, I did some checking a while back and I'm pretty sure your 2020 does not have ANC.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I can't find the mic because it's not there. I will just have to put up with that annoying drone in 10th. gear at 1250 r.p.m. I am looking for a low mileage ecoboost premium with the stick shift, which I should have bought in the first place. There are not that many low mileage, used Mustangs in my area and I am hoping that when the 2024 comes out, people will start trading theirs in. Thanks again.

1250 RPM in 10th gear equals what speed?

I have the same car as you with the stock exhaust and the drone in 10th. gear isn't real loud, just annoying. I had a different thread on here about how I could possibly have 10th. gear blocked. In 9th. gear the r.p.m.'s at 50 m.p.h. is 1500 and at that r.p.m. I have no drone. I know Ford's purpose with the low r.p.m.'s is all about gas mileage but, in my opinion, the trans. should only be a 9 speed. If I had the manual, I would not be in 6th gear very often unless I was doing 60 to 70 m.p.h. as 6th. gear is a gas mileage gear also. As I said earlier, I should have gotten the car with the manual trans. At least I could keep the trans. in whatever gear I want. I don't like using SPORT as the r.p.m.'s are too high. I'm from the old school of not using the upper r.p.m.'s of the engine unless its' needed, like when I want to pass someone.

I came from the 5 spd manual world with my fox body mustangs in the 90’s, the 2020 with the ten speed and being turbo I drive it totally different. The rear end being 3.15 means at 2000 rpm I am doing 80 mph. You can go 3.31 or even do a Torsen 3.55 matching well with the ten speed. I guess I am not as annoyed at drone or vent to atmosphere sounds as most though.

You suggest I go to a 3:31 or 3:55 rear gear. I looked into that and Ford made the rear on the stock auto trans with an aluminum housing, and the housing has to be cast iron for the lower gears. I would change gears to a 3:55 tomorrow if I could. I don't know why Ford didn't make all the diff. housings cast iron. Economics, I guess. Thanks for your input, though.

Just replace the entire rear diff unit instead of just the gears, it should be an easy swap.

After hours of searching useless websites only to find BAD information, I have found that in my 2017 Mustang EcoBoost Convertible uses TWO microphones, and the Coupe uses THREE to broadcast the engine noise thru the radio speakers.

Both models in 2017 use the trunks' left rear area see all the attachments from the Chilton manual that found,

I will post pictures of the locations when the garage warms up.

Happy Motoring!

NOTE; The top center console microphone will need to be removed from console hole and taken apart to disconnect the electrical plug from Mic.

This post is wrong. That picture is the antenna power. Do not unplug it.
I just posted the correct pictures and location on microphones on my 2015 convertible.
It has three.
One in the center top of windshield console. Just pull down plastic cover has two clips.
The other two miles are located on each side behind the radio speaker covers I think on the coupe. That's where they are on t
My conv.
Look for my new post.
