I've considered replacing the stock steering wheel with a gt350 style one, like the sve x550 or the cj pony parts wheel. The wheels are made out of leather and alacantara. Do any of you have one? If so how durable is the steering wheel, and is it worth $300 dollars?

I would just think that the centering stripe should be up top...

I also considered this wheel for my car; but it has the premium package, so the steering wheel is already leather. After doing some research, I discovered that Alcantara is a synthetic fabric that is supposed to mimic suede, in appearance and feel. What is different about it, is its durability. It's tons more durable than suede, so it will last a lot longer. They also claim that Alcantara will clean up much better than suede. I guess if I had a standard wheel (non-leather), I'd consider the GT350 wheel. According to the install guide on CJPP, it's a bunch of work to transfer all of the parts over, but it would probably be worth the investment. Plus...you get that really cool D-shaped wheel, with a red stripe at top-dead-center. Not a bad deal for $300.

Ok. I have one. I love it.
Is it worth $300? That is up to the installing person, I guess. I was lucky in that I found one "lightly used" on the web somewhere and picked it up for less than the advertised $300.
What I like about it; the shape. I like the flat bottom, especially when on-track and heel-toe shifting. The thumb rests are nice as well, and I personally like a "fat" steering wheel, this one is that.
Not too bad installing, just take your time and follow the instructions. (It is posted in my build thread)

I only wish the centering stripe was red.

Hmmm...great looking wheel. For some reason, I thought the stitching and the stripe on the GT350 were red??? My bad. I took a quick look at it some time ago and didn't remember that fact.

Yes, the GT350-R wheels are red trimmed. They weren't out on the used market when I picked up mine or I would have gone that route for aesthetics. Not sure if I'd like that bright red stripe whipping back and forth through my field of view on the track tho.

The Alcantara works great with gloves on the track as well, much better than the "pleather." (or is it "f-leather?")

GT350R is red center stripe w/red stitching. I love mine. I think the original steering wheel pleather is crap.
Oh wow...I guess I wasn't seeing things? I must have looked at the "R" steering wheel, with red stitching and center stripe. That makes me feel a little better...I guess??? The red does look really good.

How has it held up so far? Are there any signs of the Alacantara wearing down? The sve x550 wheel has alacantara on the top and leather on the sides, whereas the cj pony parts wheel has alcantara on the side and leather on top. I'm trying to decide which one will last longer.

I have not had any signs of wear yet. However, I don't daily mine, so I don't put the wear on it that some others do. I like the position of the Alcantara, but I believe that the leather will wear better.

If you search my post on the subject, I cleaned my GT350R wheel after ~15k miles. Looks virtually new. I dig it.
