Cloning/coping an ECU???

I like this idea, what did you have to give for the ecu and is it from a junkyard. It should be able to be done if you have the correct knowledge and equipment.

Sucks that you may have to pay for another license fee to clone the ECU but if it gets you to the goal you are wanting then that's great. More than one way to skin a cat.

Looks like I might be able to use my HPtuners Interface and some additional (available?) software to change the VIN on the donor ECU. But, if I understand correctly, the license, follows the ECU, not the VIN, so a new license for the donor ECU will be $200, but I'm ok with that, provided the additional software is available (and free)!
So, the license is tied to the ECU serial number not the VIN number I would guess for it to require a new license to rewrite the VIN. So essentially you will have 2 ECUs with same vin but different serial numbers. Interested to know if that is truly the case, I would think it should be tied to VIN not serial number since ECUs should all have same part numbers for model vehicle. But never done it so may be completely wrong as well.
