2 things annoyed me when looking at the engine was the fused box and the honeycomb expansion tank, since I moved the fuse to the battery, it gave me more room so last week I started to relocate the expansion tank and this how it went.

purchase :

black clamps
hose sleeve
powergrip hose clamp
brass fittings
yellow coolant

first i purchase a small and better looking tank for 80
placed it where i wanted to see how it will fit and how will i will be rerouting the hoses specially the drain hose.

after seeing how it would look i discarded my first idea on how to mount it cause i was trying to avoid in drilling holes and saw that there was already holes to add rivet nut on it. made some brackets simple

now that is on and leveled I purchase 3/8 heater hose, all you need is 3ft in total as you will use the ends of the original hose just to maintain some curves and one of the original hose has a check valve inside the hose so I didn't want to mess with it so I kept it. drain hose has a T fitting plastic so I swap it with a brass, also swapped all the clamps.

once hose where cut to size and as you see the end curves are from the original. the hose with the silver clamp that's a check valve inside don't remove the the clamp. its time to install

the long top hose was just hanging so I had to make a bracket I was going to purchase the 50 dollar trans mount but to much for what I want so I made a simple bracket.

after bracket was made i bolted it on and installed everything and that is all filled the coolant 50/50 and bleeded then drove and all looks good

i feel like it looks more better and the spot where i installed the tank was empty, it gave me a better reason to put it there and now i have plenty of room in the center. it was fun and simple to do didn't spend much since the brackets i was able to do at work and they had scrap metal laying around. i spend more on the black clamps kit then anything else.

I agree it looks nice. I do have a question though, how do you get a compleate fill on the coolant system with your fill point so much lower? It seems to me that all of the coolant passages in the head that are above the level of the expansion tank would not be getting coolant.

If your referring to the two 3/8 hose ontop of the tank those are return lines to the tank . And the tank is the same level height of the original. When opening the cap it don't spill anything out.

I try to do my best to keep all original heigh of the tank to avoid any problems and top hose since it all drains to the tank to don't really matter height but I try to make it as smooth of a passage for the fluid. And the drain just a drain. Length don't matter. I believe for now I ran the car got majority of bubbles out. Drove and parked it to check level whole running and it was slight height which is normal but when open the cap no spill just regular system pressure coming out. I have normal heat inside and all hose get warm. Time will tell

That's a coyote coolant diagram; but, I think we're talking about the same thing. #1 in my pic. That's the highest point in the engine's coolant path. If #3 is lower than that, your tank will fill up with coolant sending an air bubble up by #2. But if #2 and #3 are at the same height, it's all a moot point. View attachment 44639

Sweet I learn something. Thanks for taking time to number them. Makes it easier to under stand but yes the cap 3 is higher then 1. The image don't do justice to the height makes it look lower..

Looks good! Only thing left is to toss the OEM one in the trash haha

LOL true but i always end up keeping the old parts just incase some one needs it to sell it or incase something happens to mines and I can just swap it back to original
