Smoking Eco

Okay, riddle me this. I have an S550 Eco which picked up a smoking habbit after I installed a CVF Downpipe and the Base Map from PD Tuning. (Both went in the same day) It's white / gray, bitter, or metallic in sent, and isn't always thick. At first it was only present when I slowed to a stop. Then it began to appear at idle. I first drained the oil. It came out looking almost brand new. I checked the coolant next. Nothing out of the ordinary there either. The level has been constant, and when I pressurize the system it holds pressure. I checked the plugs. They have the typical amount of fouling for less than 1000 miles, and are NOT TOO clean, like they would be if I were burning coolant and the steam were "cleaning" them. I then put a bore cam down each cylinder. I did not find any liquid, or anything out of the ordinary, even with the coolant system pressurized.

I am looking for suggestions to further trouble shooting. My mileage is great. I haven't lost any power. As a matter of fact I chirp tires with WOT up to 3rd gear, can hit 115 - 120 in 3rd and hit 150 mph before I had to get off my exit, on my way to work this morning. Of course I had a cloud of smoke when I stopped to back into my parking space.

What would you check next?

Does it look anything like this? In my case, the issue tuned out to be positive crankcase pressure due to a failed PCV. But, I don't remember any odors, other than oil.

Damn it I didn't even think about a PCV failure. What do you think it needs, a stronger check valve before the catch can? Crank case breather?

I removed and inspected the one way valve (located under the intake manifold) of the PVC system. I found a partly open valve. So I gutted the valve and installed a new and stronger external check valve. I also added an optional crankcase breather.

I appreciate you. That certainly sounds like a probable culprit.

My (older) Cobb Access device has "crankcase pressure" in it's menu, plus several fellow forum members helped me to troubleshoot and correct my cars, PCV/crankcase pressure issue!

PS: I just remembered, I did have an odor issue after loading revision 3 of my 93 octane custom tune. I complained to EMS' tuner, and he claimed it didn't have anything to do with his tuning, however, when he sent me revision 4, the problem went away.

what's a normal range for crankcase pressure for our cars? Once im done tuning my car I plan to have that up as one of my gauges on my Cobb AP.
