Tires for wide body kits

592 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Buldawg76
I wondered what size tires are needed for a wide body kit. Maybe a silly question but is there spacers on the axle to push the tires out so it surrounds the wider fenders and makes a wider stance? I was interested in adding a kit like this to my 19 mustang . Not sure what is all involved in this type of set up . Has any owners on here done this?
thanks for any information .

There's no specific size required...it just depends on what width looks best on your car with the kit. But I'd guess 295 would be a good starting point. Spacers are almost guaranteed, but again, it depends on the type of fitment you're going for...tucked, flush, etc.

I'd honestly take a moment to consider what you'll be doing to your car though. Its going to be a lot wider, hence the name. Everyday life was not built for widebody cars. So things like parking garages, drive-thrus, car washes, and other everyday places will become an instant nightmare if you do that. Not to mention, you'll be parking in the back of the parking lot everywhere you go to avoid door dings from irresponsible people, so get used to walking. Every idiot on the highway will unnecessarily try to race you and increased attention from the police is a real possibility as well.

But if its just a weekend car that you'll rarely drive, then I say go for it if you have funds. It'd look amazing and you'd turn heads wherever you go.

Just be aware that installing spacers or wider rims that move the center of the tires contact footprint farther outward from the wheel flange/bearing will add increased leverage and shorten the life of the wheel bearings. It's a tradeoff for looks over function and reliability/durability.
