Tuning your own Ecoboost Mustang!??

Step 1) I'm taking a course on EFI Tuning.

Step 2) I'm researching equipment needed.

Question, how many of us are doing our own electronic tuning and do you have recommendations for training and equipment?

"Some tuners lock the ECU to supposedly protect their IP. In reality from what I see, the majority of tuners who lock their maps do it because they have no clue what they're doing and don't want others to see their maps."

Sounds believable to me!

PS: I now have access to the "pre April 2022 Cobb OTS tunes", which is what I want and need to build my own E85/NX2 competition tune.
And as for what I paid EMS and his Tuner almost $1000, to be installed on My ECU via My Accessport, it is still locked and unaccessible.

If that's how they choose to do business, I have absolutely no respect for either party.
i'm looking thru other ford forums and trying to find people who seem to have accesstuner by their posts but hardly any of them have PM's open to try and get the install file from them.
Not sure that would work anyhow, since I've read that the software communicates with a server to confirm you have a legit, current version. Don't know if that's fact, but it seems likely.
You know I wish you the best! 😁
The guy who sent me the data from the OTS tune, which I plan on using for my base tune, has been working with the other tunes on my Cobb device.
Apparently, he has some sort of "electronic bench setup" and has been using ATR software, he downloaded from Cobb, some 10 years ago, when he tuned his own car, for the first time...?
I think ATR, stands for access tuner race??
Have you ever heard of these terms? It's all new to me!

Other than the electronic bench setup, my son and his buddy, had one, when we were racing RC cars.
Interesting. No, I don't know a lot about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's able to manipulate the files with an older version of the software. It might not handle some of the newer functions and settings, but maybe he can make it "functional enough". That would be cool.

Tuning is on hold, while I pull the head from my motor and make any needed repairs, caused by the server overheating issues I had at the NMRA 2023 Spring Break Shootout in Orlando Florida.

Bummer on having overheating issues at the spring nats. I hope it's not too serious and that you don't need a new head or block. Hopefully just gasket replacement.

Sorry to hear of all the issues you are having with being able to tune your own car due to AP and such issues.

Sorry, I haven't even downloaded the file he sent me. I've only been in my shop for a few hours these past months and haven't been on any of the Tuner Forums.

Now, even though my Ecoboost Mustang is on hold, doesn't mean that I'm going to sit idle.
I purchased some additional credits for my HPtuners interface (MPVI3) and am going to experiment/practice tuning another vehicle.
HPtuners hardware/software supports every vehicle I own, even my diesel truck and V10 powered Ford E450. All I have to do is load the credits and register/license whichever vehicle I decide to use as a genii pig.
