fwiw, i knocked my front alignment with a whack .. got a re-alignment. when i would do the early morning k-turn it would make a horrible sound and it felt like my front wheels were skipping on the tight turn. i swore up and down it was a bad alignment and it was coming from the front--dozens of experiences. my Father got in first time, heard/felt it and immediately looked behind him. said it was coming from the rear. said the differential needs to 'warm up' -- its been sitting all nite. idk what all that means .. but now i just drive around the block (rounding off the turn, not sharply) instead of K-turning so i don't have to experience it and it's 'warm' enough within 1/8 of a mile

I hope you are correct so I can stop worrying about it too ha. I've always prided myself on being able to hear weird things automotive, but it seems to drive me nuts more than it helps. I know it definitely drives my wife nuts too when she has to hear me complain about weird sounds haha.

My 2020 makes more noises than my empty stomach ! I’m the same way when I hear a sound I’ve never heard before, what and why is it doing that
: )
But everything is working great but I will always wonder, what is that noise.

I took the car to the dealer today for a recall, the brake pedal mounting plate. Since it was going to be there for a few hours I wanted them to take a look at it.
So Gill ( the master mechanic) and I did some 360 burnouts in the parking lot. Scratch that I’m lying,,,,we drove around in the parking lot and the noise reared its head. Right away Gill said it is clutching in the diff.
He wants to do a oil change and see if it goes away and if not replace the diff.

I have been saying for a couple years now that I should replace the trans and rear end fluid. I still haven't done it. I think I'm gonna do it in the spring when it comes out of storage. There has to be far better fluids out there than oem.

This week the dealership took the cover off the diff to change the oil and also to take a look. No metal was found so they changed the fluid and drove it in the parking lot and was still making the noise, so they want to replace the clutch plates. The parts won’t come in till next week so we’ll try again in a week or two.

I finally had the clutch plates replaced in the differential and the noise is gone !
Did they replace the clutches under warranty or out of your pocket? I changed my rear end oil to Royal Purple and I still have the noise. I was okay with the idea of it being just nature of the beast, but the fact that nobody else but us has the issue is concerning.

P zero nero 255/40/19’s and it made the noise at all outside air temps but the car needed to cool down for at least four hours for it to occur. Also the noise was during right turns forward or backing and after a couple of miles it was gone.

What type and brand tires are you running and what was the temperature outside when this happened?
Same experience as @Park , but I have 325 coopers. It does seem to be turning right, I'm not sure I've heard it turning left. I'll have to try today to see if I can replicate it.

My recently purchased 2018 is also making the noise when I back up the car from driveway every morning. Additionally, it is making some grinding noise from the back when the car is going around 50mph. Ford is going to replace the differential (not sure the clutch plates only or the entire differential). I will report back if that fixes the issues.

Its been a couple of weeks since I last reported. About a week ago the noise went away, two days ago it’s back but not as much as before. I wonder if the electronic stability control ?
I have a rubbing noise and feel coming from the differential. It happens at slow speed turning sharply. I’m having trouble getting dealer to fix. It’s under warranty. Any ideas what to do?

Are they saying it's normal, or are they claiming they don't hear/feel it? I had a dealer do that to me once with a transmission (different car). As soon as it exceeded warranty mileage, they could suddenly detect a problem that required complete replacement of my transmission... 😈
