To make the engine "pretty" when you open the hood. Generally it's a big fogger with some shine-inducing fluid in it. They spray the entire bay down so it looks sharp on the lot.

Something the used car dealerships do is it actually will power wash the engine and then afterwards they use the tire foam over the whole entire engine and it makes it look really new and clean.. but any residue of that stuff would have burned off quick.. one thing to check for if some of your electrical lines that are close to your exhaust such as the wiring to your O2 sensors if they're not tucked up correctly and rubbing against the exhaust it could start heating up and causing the smell of some sort... and another quick check is take off your engine cover and see if any oil leaked when you had oil change and got on top of the engine and is getting heated up.

Sounds like a bad cat to me. I've smelled it on other cars before, bad cat every time. Fully covered by warranty. (especially in California). Google it to set your mind at ease, then call and set up a appointment at the dealership.

No lights of any type or warnings on display.

I am having a similar issue on my 2017 automatic with 13000 miles. Just started a couple weeks ago, I finally confirmed that its coming from my exhaust area, and this morning was really bad. I'm going to take the advice and go check my levels right now.

Any resolution to these? I have a 2018 that has a burning smell under boost.
