I changed the transmission fluid on my automatic at 30K and will do it every 30K. Fresh transmission fluid is almost as important as fresh oil in prolonging your engine life, with the 6R80.

Ford recommends that the transmission fluid, both for automatic and MT82 manual transmissions, be replaced at a maximum interval of 150,000 miles.

Motorcraft mercon LV (LV=low viscosity) is the recommended fluid.
People on the bobistheoilguy forums report that Valvoline maxlife LV transmission fluid works fine as well but I wouldn't recommend using it within the warranty period

For the filter rockauto lists a Motorcraft FT188

When you change the fluid do you also do filter? Mackuloko says only fluid at 30, i'm at 35k and bringing it in this week for a fluid change I think. Looking at the 6R80 it looks like an exceptionally built unit, I almost hate to not change a serviceable filter with an integrated pan gasket! Seems every other car i own/owned has a "problem" trans but this one.

ok sorry for two posts in 1 week but....
I took my car in for a flush/exchange. I specified to the FORD DEALER that I wanted only Mercon LV. Nothing else. Get the bill, price wasn't crazy, but says "Zaks premium transmission exchange". Has anyone used this and/or if you walked up and said "I want a fluid flush" would you be pissed/demand a re-do? This is the same place that incorrectly noted on their paperwork that they put in 5W20 oil in last time and i made them drop and refill it, so it is possible thats just their service system line. Any advice? Am I overreacting?

They should've used what you specified. I'd go back and have them replace the fluid with OEM spec & not settle for any charges. Watch them too!
Only go to a Ford dealer for anything engine or trans related while under warranty. Saves time arguing later if God forbid anything catastrophic happens.

FWIW, when my son was the service manager at a local CDJR dealership they purchased oil, transmission fluid and antifreeze in bulk from a local distributor. It met the Mopar specs but was not the mopar brand. It was distributed to the service bays via an overhead system. The only time you got the mopar brand fluids is if you went to the parts counter or had a vehicle that required something unique they couldn't justify taking up position in the overhead distribution system.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not as concerned if this Zak stuff meets spec but i suppose in theory its at most a 10 oz bottle on top of 3.2 gallons of fluid. The interesting thing to me is googling the part numbers comes up with the actual products. The trans fluid PN is XT-10_XXXX where I believe the XXXX is how it's sold (quarts, gallons, bulk). I was able to find a nice little picture of the Zaks kit but zero on any good or bad reviews. I'm most maddened because I specifically said only the Mercon LV, yet they put something else in on top. As maniacal as I am, I pulled up (to throw out) my maintenance history on my last car that went 230k without trans issues and I found that a dealer put the BG version of this snake oil in at one of the flushes on it, so maybe it wont be bad. Plus it is a rather large dealer in a rather large area so i'd assume they would have many p'd off people if this stuff ruined their transmissions. Regardless now I know when my Escape needs a flush to specifically call out in big letters not to do anything else to it.

Going down the rabbit hole of dealer maintenance, can they tell through the WO system what the mechanic actually dispensed to any job on that system? When they screwed up the paperwork on the oil change they claimed to check this but I have a mental image of a bunch of tubes running from the ceiling and the only check would be whether or not the big drum in back is empty.
