Has anyone ever cloned an ECU for their Ecoboost Mustang and/or another car or truck?
I picked up a used ECU and want to know if it is possible to reprogram or install a copy of my original factory ECU program and VIN?

I like this idea, what did you have to give for the ecu and is it from a junkyard. It should be able to be done if you have the correct knowledge and equipment.

$80, w/ warranty and shipping included. Came from a Savage Yard (Discount Auto) that sells used parts on eBay.
It's something I hope not to ever need, but since I'm having some issues with being able to unmarry my Cobb Accessport, from my factory original ECU. I figured, a back-up, might be worth while, just depends on what all is required to make it work...!?

Looks like I might be able to use my HPtuners Interface and some additional (available?) software to change the VIN on the donor ECU. But, if I understand correctly, the license, follows the ECU, not the VIN, so a new license for the donor ECU will be $200, but I'm ok with that, provided the additional software is available (and free)!

So, the license is tied to the ECU serial number not the VIN number I would guess for it to require a new license to rewrite the VIN. So essentially you will have 2 ECUs with same vin but different serial numbers. Interested to know if that is truly the case, I would think it should be tied to VIN not serial number since ECUs should all have is same part numbers for model vehicle. But never done it so may be completely wrong as well.

Not 100 percent sure, but what I read is that the licence (which I own, the only thing that expires is my off-road classification, every 12 months) travels with the ECU, not the vehicle chassis.
HPtuners is continuing to update thier software and are adding options. An example is the ability to make more modifications to an earlier GM than the latest GM, etc. So even if I can't change the VIN today (using my interface), I may be able to do it in the future. However, I will probably still have to licence the donor ECU, in order to change it's VIN.
