How do I know I have the fake engine noise on the ecoboost?

So I'm driving with the window up on my 2016 Eco PP with the music off. The car seems relatively quiet to me in normal mode. I think I can hear the engine more in Sport or Track mode if I press down on the pedal.
  • Are those sounds being amplified through the speakers?
  • Is there a way to really test or know?
  • Should I turn off my infotainment system?
I did some digging and read about 'active noise control'. Is that always on?

Sorry in advance for the dumb questions.

Yes always on. Plays through your speakers can be turned off using Forscan or disconnecting the mics in the roof lining. One rear one up front.

FP Tune will also disable it.

Negative, Paul. I confirmed it will not. It became a problem once I put my amp and my subwoofer in. And this was way after the FP tune. The sub woofer would just echo the exhaust note. You have to go in with either Forscan (as I did) or go into the liner and disable the mic.

The fake engine noise is just several different low frequency tones that compliment the exhaust at certain rpms, the Cobb tunes will play those tones when switching maps on the 15 to 17 models.
When adding a subwoofer those tones get drastically amplified and played through the woofer so disabling them becomes mandatory.
On a coup with the base stereo unplugging the mic hidden in the rear headliner disables the tones (or use forscan). In cars with amplified premium stereos the system works differently and there has been reports that unplugging the mic was ineffective.

All I can say is the ANC is separate from the Sound Symposer that pumps fake engine noises through the speakers. I have disconnected the mics in the head liner and the overall noise in the cabin goes up which is not what I wanted but the fake engine sound stays.

This thread is specific to the Sound Symposer.

The sound of the engine inside the cabin very definitely changed when the FP tune was installed. I have seen (4) different strings for the 727-01-01 parameter that say they turn off the fake engine noises or the ANC or both. Since none of this info is official from Ford I don't take it as absolute fact.

Since I want the ANC to be functioning I never messed with that parameter since everything I have seen reported is the fake engine noise is turned off with the FP tune and my experience supports that.

Sounds like from your experience that parameter does in fact turn off the ANC.

I have an '18 Ecoboost and I didn't want the Symposer or ANC. YES I disconnected the Mics (front and rear) and the ANC went away but the Symposer remained. I turned off the Symposer with Forscan (ACM 727-01-01 FA00 to F800) but I wanted to do more (that some might find useful).

I created a splice cable for the amp that switches ON or OFF the 6 pins (9-14) that feed "ANC" and with the dip switch. With the Symposer turned ON (FA00) and the mics connected I can turn on each and all 6 ANC channels and enable both ANC and the Symposer (fake engine noise). I'm not sure why anybody would want to do this but it does allow one to enable/disable both the ANC and Symposer "on the fly".

I since disconnected the mics and returned to F800.

The fake sound is produced from the engine sound and rpm not the exhaust note.

I agree with you.
I really dig the fake sound, which I only get when in Sport+ or Track mode. In Normal mode I cannot hear it.
It makes the car sound like a V8 (not the exhaust, I'm talking about the engine noise).
The sound, sounds like it is coming from the engine bay NOT the exhaust at the rear.

I cannot for the life of me understand why so many Ecoboost Mustang owners don't like it?
Maybe Ford tweaked it for the 2017 and newer models, maybe the sound is different on Australian and globally exported models to US ones... I don't know?

If I take someone as a passenger in mine, and put it on Sport +, and I have not told them it's not a V8... They would never know, unless they are a GT owner or know Mustangs.

It sounds nothing like the fake sound you can test out when using the Cobb Accessport at 1000, 200, 3000 rpm etc... Which to me just sound like "test tones".... Nothing like that at all.

The fake sound I get is more of a V8 rumble.

No way would I want to disable the fake sound.

I hope also everyone here realizes that the GT also pumps "fake sound" into the cabin, not through the speakers like an Ecoboost, but through a physical rubber sound tube connected to the air intake.

So even the GT's have 'fake' or amplified sound put into the cabin. :)
